OralID

Approximately 54,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or oropharyngeal cancer this year. It will cause almost 10,000 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. And, of those 54,000 newly diagnosed individuals, only slightly more than half will be alive in five years. In fact, the death rate for oral cancer is higher than that of cancers which we hear about routinely such as cervical cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, laryngeal cancer, cancer of the testes, and many others.
These are sobering statistics, and that’s why we at Dr. Lance Johnson Family Dentistry make it part of our standard practice to check our patients visually for the signs of oral cancer at every appointment. Now, with the Oral ID cancer screening light, we have a new weapon in our dental arsenal to ensure that no oral cancer goes untreated in our office.
OralID is a “fluorescence technology” that utilizes blue light waves to highlight problem areas, making them visible to our dental team. Abnormalities in the mouth are a signal of oral cancer and pre-cancer. Early detection of oral cancer is crucial to a patient’s health, so we’re proud to operate the best technology on the market for visualizing oral abnormalities — and do our part to bring those oral cancer statistics down.

Orthophos SL 3D (CBCT)
Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems are used to render high-definition 3D scans of the mouth and jaw with less radiation exposure. Data is captured using a cone-shaped X-ray beam that allows our doctors a 360-degree view of your teeth. Traditional dental X-rays are useful; however, many situations require a closer look. By utilizing CBCT technology, we are able to plot out complex dental procedures and take extremely close looks at problem areas. This machine even allows us to map out nerves in the facial structure, assuring a successful recovery free of unnecessary pain.
CEREC Primescan
We are always looking for ways to improve the patient experience. One of the most exciting advancements in dental technology that allows us to do so is the CEREC Primescan device. This intra-oral scanner takes 3D digital impressions of teeth, making impressions faster and reducing discomfort as well as gagging. Digital impressions streamline the appointment process, getting you in and out of an appointment even quicker. Invisible braces can be made almost instantly by sharing the impressions virtually, rather than having to mail traditional impressions to the manufacturer. Results can be viewed in real time, allowing your doctor to view the 3D map of your teeth on a screen while taking the impressions. You’ve never seen the inside of your mouth quite like this!
CEREC Primemill
Digital chairside dentistry is possible with the combination of the CEREC Primescan and CEREC Primemill devices. The CEREC Primemill is a wet and dry milling and wet grinding machine that allows us to manufacture dental accessories including crowns and implants in our own office. After taking digital impressions of your mouth using our comfortable, non-invasive Primescan device, we utilize the 3D map of your teeth with our CEREC Primemill to produce PERFECTLY fitting oral accessories.
Invisalign, SureSmile® and ClearCorrect
Straighten teeth with confidence by wearing an invisible aligner customized for your smile. Plastic aligners progress gradually until your teeth are shifted into the beautiful smile of your dreams. Each tray is worn for several weeks and then swapped out. While Invisalign and ClearCorrect must be worn at all times, with exceptions, not having clunky metal braces makes hygiene and daily activity easier. Typically, clear braces can be completed in half the time it takes to straighten teeth using traditional wire braces.
Teeth Whitening
We remove stains and discoloration from the surface of teeth, creating a brighter, whiter smile. Various treatment options offered in-house give patients confidence knowing that a trusted and trained professional is overseeing the whitening of fragile tooth material. During all in-office whitening sessions, we isolate the teeth from sensitive soft tissue using protective devices, guaranteeing that the whitening agent only makes contact with the teeth. We dry the surface of the teeth, apply a professional whitening agent, and closely monitor the stages of lightening. We closely study the results and reapply the agent as needed until the desired results are achieved. Our patients leave our office with confidence in their sparkling white smiles!
